About Us

Our Story

Our Story

Our Story

Our family-owned and operated winery started in the Lodi Appellation in  2001. In Italian, "Macchia" means "the spot." We source our grapes from  California's "Best Spots." We have been earning a reputation as a spot where discriminating vino buffs can find small lots of high-quality vintages at some very reasonable prices.

Our Story

Well aware of the potential for quality in Old Vine Zinfandel, long ignored by many winemakers outside the Lodi area, we make multiple Zinfandels, each sporting its distinctive qualities.  In addition,  we offer some amazing Italian, Spanish, & French varietals such as Sangiovese, Nebbiolo,  Barbera, Graciano, and French Colombard. All of our wines are vegan and gluten-free.

Jonathan  McMahan is a second-generation winemaker at Macchia.  Starting in 2002,  he learned early on the importance of this hands-on approach, working with the vineyards and the growers, and showcasing the grapes first and foremost.  Over the years, he has collaborated with some of the most renowned winemakers and growers here in Lodi.

Our approach toward winemaking is to enhance each vineyard's personality. Wine-making technology has improved dramatically in the last two decades, but it is still the quality of the fruit that will ultimately determine how good your wine truly is.

Remember, it's all about the grape!
